Rafika Chawishe

Rafika Chawishe (born Rafika Helena Catherine Chawishe- Ραφίκα Ελένη Αικατερίνη Σαουίς,13 January 1986) is an English actress. Her mother is Greek and her Father is English. She grew up in both England and Greece. She started performing in a very young age,in many highly regarded productions, portraying leading parts from the classical repertory. Chawishe was soon noticed by the critics for her talent, especially after playing Medea in the J. Gielgud Theatre (RADA) and the Abbey Festival. Rafika Chawishe made her professional debut in 2006 with the National Theatre of Greece at the theatre of Epidavre, playing Cassandra (graduating performance) in The Trojan Women. Over the following few years she played several of William Shakespeare's plays in such roles as Immogen in Cymbeline, Juliet in Romeo and Portia in the Merchant of Venice. She collaborated with Bruce Myers twice. The first time they worked together on an adaptation titled, Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare. They tried to stage this adaptation in Greece however they never managed to do that.
The second time they worked together was in the play "The Maids" staged at the National Theatre in 2015.
Rafika Chawishe has also staged her own productions in London. She staged three different versions of Medea. In 2007 directed and acted in a short film that was screened in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival Cannes Film Festival. In 2008 she directed another short film that participated in the International Film Festival of Seoul and in the Palm Springs Festival.
In 2009 the Hollywood Foreign Press Association invited her to make her debut appearance in Golden Globe Awards as a newcomer.
She is exceedingly well-schooled in her profession with training from some of the most important and distinguished drama institutes in the world, including: The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art(Bronze, Silver, Gold Certificate in Acting Shakespeare), the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Greece, and a second bachelor's degree in classics and linguistics from the National University, School of Philosophy.
